When talking with a non-cyclist, mountain biking always strikes them as the riskiest type of cycling, what with all the roots, rocks, and trees and such… Talk to another cyclist, and normally, they’ll say road cycling is the most dangerous, (and I’d agree – all my worst cycling injuries have happened on pavement or concrete). Factor in the speeds road bikes get up to and vehicles, etc… it’s easy to see why it is, in fact, fairly risky business. Now take track cycling – a safe ‘built-for-bikes’ environment. What could go wrong? Well, put more than just two racers on the velodrome and, lots… As horrific as the crashes in the video appear, I still have to say I’d rather hit a wooden surface, and then be run over by other cyclists, than hit the road and be run over by other cyclists, or cars…

What do you think the riskiest form of cycling is? I guess I didn’t even consider downhill ;-)
