Last week I had the good fortune of receiving a quick note from Alan Schietzsch informing me of some pretty exciting news for the cycling community in Edmonton. An indoor cycling track! How awesome would that be?!?!

So with that, it’s time for our Edmonton readers to rally up and get behind this initiative:

As many of you are aware the Argyll Velodrome Association has been working with the City of Edmonton to provide a new indoor cycling track for the cyclists of Edmonton.  This raises the profile and respect for cycling for ALL cyclists, not just track racers. The first stage of planning is underway with the cycling track as part of the Cororonation Recreation Centre. A quick summary of what has been occurring:

  • We are currently looking to have a track in a Recreational Centre setting
  • The facility would be located in Coronation Park
  • One solid partner in aiding the creation of the indoor velodrome is the Edmonton Triathlon Academy
  • The creation of this facility would allow world class training and racing regardless of the season

However, none of this can occur with out the help of the community. This is the point when we need cyclists (aka you!) to help this project along.

On May 16th from 6:30pm-9:30pm there is a “Public information session on the Coronation Recreation Centre” at the Central Lions Senior Centre.

This session is a chance for you to give any ideas you have for the track, and for you to give input on ideas that have already arisen.

Even if you are not a big track rider your support and ideas are important. This information session gives Edmonton (and the greater area) cyclists a chance to be a part of making Edmonton a top North American cycling destination.

So please come show your support and invite any cycling/triathlete friends along. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Dave Embury.

You can download the press release here, but if you’re planning on attending your can RSVP your attendance to James Thompson.
