As a U of A alumnus and subscriber to the New Trail Alumni magazine, I’m often impressed by the achievements of those who’ve studied at the U of A – case in point, Tara Whitten. I had the pleasure of meeting Tara and interviewing her post-race at Road Nationals in Edmonton this past summer, but it wasn’t until I read this month’s New Trail interview by Paula Findlay, that I fully realized the scope of Tara’s talent.

This former member of the Canadian Junior National XC Ski team, now balances finishing off her Ph.D (yup, Ph.D), while training in L.A. as a professional cyclist and competing internationally in both Track and Road. Tara most recently won a gold and three bronze medals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, and is ramping up for London 2012! Impressive? Ah, hellz ya!
