I find Danny Mac vids get shot around like crazy, while sometimes, the mad-skills of a good’ol Canadian boy like Ryan Leech could use some props too, every now and then. I felt this was a cool video to choose, because not only does it highlight Ryan’s trials ability, it does so in a stark, and stylized way. It also introduces his thoughts on riding trials, providing a glimps into his own personal riding philosophy. Specifically, I liked his observation that trials is about structure and technique, as much as it is about the flow of the moment making riding, not a terrible metaphor for life, really…

Being a rider, who knows he’s certainly no trial rider, I am always amazed and stunned to watch people like Ryan do what they can do. One of my favourite Ryan Leech vids is a chapter of Kranked 6, where he rides a North Shore style trials trail, designed by him and made for the movie itself – super cool. Getting back to my lack of trials skills though, I have to say, I’d like to pick some up. Knowing the few guys that I do, who have a few skills, and seeing the impact it has on their XC ability, made me realize it’d be worth my while to work on it a little. I’m gettin’ pretty old though, so probably no Danny Mac style drops from overpasses…

Enjoy.
