Well, it was a good run! There were some great comments and it was awesome to see the community get behind this contest and to have so many people ready and willing to take the plunge into stage racing!

Unfortunately, just like out on the race course, there can be only one victor – And after tabulating all the entries, adding additional entries for our favorites, we have a winner!!

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present: Philiana Wong!!

I’m originally from Singapore but I live in Montreal. I am no pro mountain biker but I recently got into mountain biking because of my friend’s influence; they race competitively.

I think riding in Fernie would be a good head start for me to try racing. My friends have been trying to get me to race but I have not had the motivation to train. I don’t know if I will be ready for such a race, but I am sure my friends will. This gives me one more reason to be motivated and start training.

I also think that it would be something special for all of us, working together as a team and making this an unforgettable experience. I really don’t know where to begin to express my gratitude. All I can say is that I’m truly grateful!!!!!

So there you have it. I have to say I’m pretty excited that this race (and contest) is acting as a catalyst for somebody taking their riding to the next level, and even MORE stoked that it’s a GIRL! The more women we get on bikes the better, in my mind!!

I would once again like to put a huge shout out to Mark Kaltenbach and the Furious3 – Without whom none of this would have been possible… This type of grassroots race development makes it easy to get behind the Furious3 and even easier to understand why it sold out in record time!! I have it on good authority that Mark already has some plans he’s drumming up for 2012… I guess we’ll all gear up for the 2011 Furious3 while we wait ;-)

For those interested in whose prose captured Sheldon and my hearts, below are our three caption favorites (each favorite earned extra entries into the draw):

Photo #1 — Remy: China’s version of the phrase: “Hey. You have a truck? Can you help me move this weekend?”

Photo #2 — Alex: The course was a very fast open one with only one stump the entire race.

Photo #3 — Chris: Fortunately for other riders, new equipment regulations prevent Jens Voigt from using his fathers bike in Le Tour.”

Thanks again to everybody who participated… If you’re interested you can still have a look at all the original entries here.
