I can't say I've ever wanted to not ride, at least not for an extended period. That said, leading up to the TR this summer, there were for sure times that I didn't want to train - the fun was gone. I was out in the valley riding on my own a lot, and it started to get really boring. I think Ken went through a much tougher period there were he could barely look at his bike, and that was like 2 months out from the TR!

I'm coming off of two very successful seasons of riding, and I had the same burnt out feeling in September. Jumping from novice to expert in one season pushed the intensity high, and racing went from fun to chore very quickly this season. Going on a long 10 week bike tour only exacerbated these feelings in the fall because I couldn't get away from the bike.

For me, this winter will culminate with a well deserved break (from the bike - not the gym! I still like being strong and fast). Hopefully I'll find myself on a new 6" burly AM beast this spring instead of a lightweight racing hardtail. No more racing - I have left many mountains unexplored, and there are too many other trails that I have to shred first.

Riding for me is religious, and I try to attend every Sunday.
Racing and riding are to different things, Racing is a culmination of all facets of the sport..., Riding is for the love of the sport.
