I hate bike shops… They always do cool stuff, and have cool things, and make me want to part with my hard earned cash. This weekend was no different.
My wife and I decided to swing by the Bow Cycle 2010 Bike Expo, and it was a load of fun. There were reps on hand from Kona, Specialized, Norco, Cannondale, Cervélo, Banshee, Surly, Scott, and Electra… Phew… I get tired just typing it. A lot of killer bikes to take in to say the least.
Overall Bow Cycle did a bang up job with this event, in addition to all the bike displays, they had demos every hour or so, highlighting some of the newest technologies including the Shimano Di2 and SRAM XX groups… Combine that with the Bow Cycle “Poker Run” (effectively, you collect cards from each rep and try to put together a great poker hand for prizes) and it’s a fun way to spend an afternoon!
Talking to the reps is always great too – they’re so passionate about their bikes and cycling in general it’s tough not to get wrapped up in everything.
I didn’t part with any cash that day, but it definitely got me salivating and thinking about spring, since as every cyclist knows, you simply can’t have enough bikes ;-)
The other really nice thing I found is that almost all the reps were receptive to my questions about bikes. Although they were all stoked to show off their latest $10k bike, they were just as happy to shoot the shit about the mid-line bikes that a guy like me might be interested in.
To top it all off, Bow Cycle has a pretty sweet promo going on for the rest of the month – buy (or pre-order) any 2010 bike at MSRP and get 15% in store credit. I know I can think of a few things I could use that credit on, and Christmas is coming.
