From his on-trail-tweet, Lance shows off one of the two flats he got out on a training ride for the Leadville 100:

“Uh….where’s the team car??”

To be honest, I’m really stoked that Lance is hopping on a mountain bike. In my opinion, our sport needs as much media attention and publicity as it can get. I’m not sure if the Leadville 100 is getting any ‘mainstream’ media support, but I know it’s being streamed live Saturday August 15. Sadly neither Sheldon or I will be able to watch, since we’ll be tearing it up on the Transrockies, but I’m sure there will be many similarities between Lances performance on the climbs and ours ;-)

For those gear nuts, Lance’s Trek 9.9 Top Fuel is pretty fricken sweet. Sporting a full SRAM XX kit, a custom paint job (of course), and weighing in at under 22lbs (without pedals), it is extremely purdy.

Though Lance is definitely a contender, many people think that defending champ Dave Wiens is definitely going to give him a run for his money – He did beat him last year, though admittedly Lance hadn’t just come off the Tour de France. Bike Intelligencer gives Wiens a 3-2 edge in a great article looking at “Lance’s Chances.”
